Non-riding Work Day: March 6th, 2021 at Walnut Mtn Parking lot on Cherry Flats Rd. This work day is to repair damage done by vandals and to add cross ties to hopefully prevent future vandalism. Arrive between 10 and 10:15 for a quick briefing. We’ll divide into groups and get to work by 10:30.
Will need at least 3/4 teams of 3/4 members each to position crossties (3 per lane and 8 lanes) then drive 4′ stakes (2 per crosstie) down level with the top of the crosstie and finally attach the stakes to the crosstie with metal strap and lag screws.
— Clothing: Be aware of the weather forecast. Crossties are heavy and treated with creosote – wear long sleeved shirts, trousers, sturdy footwear and bring work gloves.
— Equipment needed per team: 3 pound sledge ( or heavier ) for driving stakes ; tamper with blade or pick with spike on one end to make hole through the packed gravel for the stakes; battery powered drill with 7/16 ” hex head driver to fasten metal straps to the crossties with lag screws.
— Snacks/drinks as desired.
— Plan for @ 4 hrs of work.
