Come join us for a group ride on South Holston Mountain, Saturday May 22, 2021.
Please be ready to ride out at 10 am, if you need time to tack up at the trailhead please plan to arrive early and be in the saddle, ready to ride out at 10 am sharp.
Meet at the Flatwoods Crossroad intersection (FS road 87) to park along forest service road for one of the most scenic, beautiful rides in Cherokee NF.
We will be riding Morrell Trail to the Fire Tower then out to Flint Mill Gap Overlook and loop back down. This ride is 15 miles/6 hrs and we will stop for a lunch break.
Horses need shoes or boots for this ride. Morrell trail is a single track 2.4 mile climb up the mountain, trail is rated difficult due to steady incline in elevation but has very adequate footing for horses and frequent switchbacks. This trail does overlook the side of the mountain in places and we will be riding it back down. The other 10 miles are moderate on some FS roads onto single track trails.
Directions- Hwy 44 north from Bluff City or South from Bristol to Hickory Tree Grocery. Turn east on Flatwoods Rd and follow until it turns into a gravel road, follow until you get to a 4 way intersection where we will be parking along the road side.
