Rogers Ridge Horse Trail

Location: Johnson County, ~7 mi N of Mountain City TN

Directions: From Mountain City take Hwy 91 north to Laurel Bloomery. Turn right on Gentry Creek Rd, directly across from the A-Z market. Follow the Forest Service horse signs as you make another right turn, then bear left. When the pavement ends, continue on the dirt/gravel road for about ? mile to the gravel parking area.

Parking: Established trailhead with adequate trailer parking.

Description: As you enter the parking area, the trail leaves out from the left and immediately crosses Gentry Creek. It climbs steadily, but gradually to the top of Pond Mountain, gaining about 2000 feet in elevation. It is marked with yellow blazes. There are grassy balds along the crest with magnificent views of surrounding mountains in TN, NC and VA. Near the top there is a survey marker showing the point where these three states come together. Length: 5.8 miles from parking lot to trail's end on top. This is an out-and-back trail, but the view from the top is well worth the trip. [See UPDATE on connector for Virginia Creeper trail below!!]
